Offshore pipeline laying operates around the clock without any break, which has imposed challenges to efficiency, quality and management. Waves, swells, and wind-induced seas cause the platform to move in six degrees of freedom, making it difficult to maintain a constant relative position between the welding torch and the pipe end.
Strong offshore winds can disperse the shielding gas, leading to defects such as porosity and slag inclusion. The high-humidity and salt-spray environment readily causes moisture condensation on metal surfaces, resulting in arc instability, hydrogen-induced cracking, and severe equipment corrosion.
To address these difficulties, we have built a result-oriented construction team that consists of top talents in their respective fields. Our automatic orbital welding system features precise torch positioning, parameter control, and seam tracking for high quality, high precision, and high durability, boosting productivity and quality by automating complex tasks with dual-torch systems for faster, consistent welds in challenging sea conditions.
Pipeline welding within tunnels is a systematic engineering endeavor. Its challenges extend far beyond welding techniques alone, focusing more on how to safely and efficiently organize and execute operations that meet the highest quality standards within an enclosed, hazardous, and confined space.
This requires comprehensive planning, specialized equipment, rigorous training, and an all-encompassing safety and quality control system as its backbone.
We have developed a dedicated integrated system for in-tunnel automatic welding. It enables full automation of the whole pipeline installation process, including pipe transportation, stringing, alignment, and automatic welding of all passes. With this system, the in-tunnel welding productivity can be significantly enhanced to 4-5 times than that using normal practices.
Mountainous pipeline welding can be a challenge in nearly every step, such as complex terrains, harsh operating environment, difficulty in pipe transportation and stringing, special requirements for pipe fit-up, welding and lowering, strict quality control and high risks.
To survive in the ferociously competing market, safety, quality and efficiency matter. Apart from team building, we have also developed a series of dedicated equipment to address pipe transportation and stringing, fit-up and safe efficient welding in the mountainous area.
We have modified military vehicles into six-wheel-drive pipe carriers that can carry the pipes to climb slopes up to 25°, thereby realizing efficient pipe transportation and stringing. Fit-up is a critical factor influencing welding productivity, for which we have developed a dedicated pipe fit-up platform that can significantly shorten fit-up time safely on slopes.
